Museum Saturday

We have a friend that is in charge of coordinating children's events at the BYU Museum of Art. She started a Saturday program at the museum for families to come and experience an exhibit that is going on and then after spending time in the gallery the kids get to do an art project. We have been trying to make it for a few months now and the date finally worked out this month to go.

The exhibit that the kids learned from was the "Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture." While we were waiting for the class to start they have setup a cool education room that was filled with different activities to help the kids learn and explore the Islamic culture. When the class started they began by reading this book...

After reading the book and taking about the exhibit a bit they took us into the gallery.  They played charades with the children.  Having the children act out an animal and then they had to find that animal in the exhibit.  There are some really amazing pieces included in this exhibit.  I enjoyed seeing our friends become engrossed in the story and then as they looked at the art they really paid attention to the details that they were being taught.

After spending time in the gallery we moved to the art room where our friends made crescent moons mobiles with animals that they created.  Two thumbs up for museum Saturday.  We hope to make this a monthly adventure.
