1st Day of Kindergarten!

Lucie on her 1st day of Kindergarten!

Lucie was so excited to go to her 1st day of Kindergarten. And as a parent I was so glad that she was excited. I was not sure how I was going to be. I have shed tears in the months getting to this point when we were trying to decide where she was going to go to school and having the adjustment that she is old enough to go to real, official school. The last couple of months I have felt good about everything and yesterday was no exception. Lucie did get a little sad just as we were getting ready to drop her off because she was making the transition of leaving dog at home. She chose to have Trent take her into school and I was grateful for this because when he came out he said he could have cried. If he could have cried I for sure would have cried!! He said she was a little nervous, but all the other kids had the same nervous looks on their faces.
When I picked her up she was immediately chatty and telling me all about her day and how excited she was and that she had made a new friend! Then I was teary eyed because I was so grateful that she liked it and that she wanted to go back! Whew...what a relief!
Now we get to make the adjustment to having homework every night and being responsible in remembering 5 million different things for school!! I need to get a better to do list/calendar!

Jack and Brig were so excited helping Lucie get ready for school and of course wanted to go to school too. Jack will start in a couple of weeks. This afternoon Jack and I had fun hanging out together...he made me pie, we did puzzles, we read books, and talked to characters from books on the phone. His imagination is awesome! I think he missed Lucie as they have really had fun playing together this summer.

Colorado

Last week we went to Colorado for Trent's brother's (Jeremy) wedding. We had a lot of fun visiting with extended family, going to the zoo, and having time together as a family! We were able to go to the Colorado Springs zoo. It is a really fun zoo to go to. The main attraction is the giraffes and the best part is you can feed them!! Jack LOVED feeding the giraffes...we started and ended our day at the zoo feeding them. Jack was even able to feed a baby giraffe.

We had a great vacation! It was really nice to spend time together as a family...even the drive to and from was fun. Although we did think we were in trouble about 30 minutes into the drive at 6:30 in the morning Lucie pipes up and says, "excuse me, who chose to drive?" Trent asked her how else we would get to Colorado and she responded with "fly..."like duh dad!! The only other time Jack grew impatient was by Green River and he said, "I not see Colorado anywhere!" They were very anxious to get there to see Grandpa and Grandma Schoonie, Trista and Nicki.
The next 4 posts all show pictures from the different parts of our trip.

Wedding Reception

Jeremy and Kelly's wedding reception was held at Trent's parents house. It was supposed to be outside but because of cold temperatures and a thunder storm it was held inside. At times it was a little cramped, but in the end it was all good.
We had our own adventures at the reception. Lucie had a bloody nose and then towards the end after running around and then having a coughing attack Jack threw up. The positive thing is that it happened on the front porch so we grabbed the hose and washed it all down!

Trent and 4 of his siblings and a niece.

Jeremy and Kelly opening gifts. Lucie and Jack really enjoyed this and were even able to help unwrap gifts.

The Wedding

Jeremy's wedding was held outdoors. The rain held off just long enough for the ceremony to take place.

Trent's family...only 2 sisters were not able to attend.

Lucie and Jack love seeing Trista and Nicki!
Trista is so awesome to send the kids postcards whenever she is traveling. We love reading about her adventures. We have been lucky to see here twice this year!

Swimming

Um, I think you have a problem with your swim trunks!
So, nice to have a pool all to ourselves! Lucie and Jack both had a lot of fun practicing their jumping skills into the pool!

Hanging Out and Drive Home

We did get to visit with Grandma Schoonie a little bit here and there...Jack enjoying a few last minutes with Trista and Grandma before they had to go. Trista left after the wedding to go home and Grandma and Grandpa left to drive to Wyoming for another wedding reception.

After a busy few days Lucie and Jack were ready to just hang out. They did so good sleeping in the same bed and staying on their own sides! After a busy couple of days we just vegged and watched the Olympics!

Yes, you are really seeing SNOW in August. Colorado had a cold front move in and we "enjoyed" rain and temperatures in the 40's. It felt a bit chilly coming from the 90's.

Journalings...

These are a few memories from recent that I want to remember. Do not feel obligated to read them...this is the easiest place to record them so I do not forget!

This is a conversation that took place in the car one day between Lucie and Jack. I am not quite sure how they came to this topic, but this is the place where I started really listening to what they were saying...
Lucie: Jack Heavenly Father made you but before he made you he made me.
Jack: Oh
Lucie: Yeah, mom and dad were married and lived in the apartments and then Heavenly Father started making me. You never lived in the apartments.
(Jack is listening intently to all that Lucie is telling him and either nods his head or says an "oh" or an "ok").Lucie: Mom and dad had me and then we lived in the apartment and then we moved to our house. When we moved to our house Heavenly Father started making you. Now Heavenly Father is working on making our new baby sister.

This is a conversation between Trent and Jack -
Jack: I'm ungry (hungry)
Trent: Do you have a hollow leg because you just ate 2 slices of bologna and crackers with peanut butter.
Jack: Yeah. I'm ungry!
Trent: What do you want?
Jack: A treat.
Trent: Oh, so you want empty calories!
Jack: Yeah, empty calories.
Now, when Jack asks for a treat he says "empty calories pleeeeease!"

I came across an email that Trent had recently written to a friend. In the email he described Lucie and Jack. I wanted to write those thoughts down to preserve what he had said...
Our oldest daughter, Lucie has turned 5 and is on her way to Kindergarten this fall. She is a wonderfully sweet and smart little girl and will make a terrific kindergartener. Jack is turning 3 and has boundless energy. He has a soft heart and although he loves to torment his sister has a very special place in his heart for her and is concerned for her well being.

Yesterday Lucie, Jack and Brig were playing after Sunday dinner. Lucie made this "uhh" sound and we asked her what was the matter...without missing a beat she turned around and said "Brigham just used me as a towel!" Maybe you had to be there but it was one of those funny moments!

We have watched a bunch of Olympic tv this weekend (more than we thought we would). Lucie and Jack have loved watching it with us as well. Yesterday as Jack was playing I was listening to what he saying...he was pretending he was going to China. China is the fun new word for him to say and use!

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY
to the best dad!

We love Trent so much. He is so kind and generous. He takes such good care of our family and we were so excited to celebrate his birthday!
We had lots of fun celebrating the week of Trent's birthday...taking treats to Trent's work, making banners, going mini golfing....
We cannot say THANK YOU enough for all you do!

This is Lucie and Jack in the background singing a Happy Birthday song!

Farewell to Nicki...

Trent's sister Nicki moved from Utah at the end of July. It will be strange with her not living here anymore...she has been here for the past 5 years. She will be so successful and have lots of new adventures on the East Coast as she goes to physical theraphy school! We are so proud of her and all that she has accomplished and will accomplish!

Before Nicki left we had a Schoonie family BBQ to say good-bye...
