Christmas Week

We had the best Christmas week...enjoying different activities each day! It has been so nice to have time off from our regular routine. Lucie, Jack and I have all enjoyed having Trent at home and will miss it when he has to go back to work...Here are a few of the things that we have had fun doing...
We had an awesome Christmas day. We enjoyed the tiny bit of snow that we received on Christmas Eve by going sledding...Grandma Taylor was even a good sport and went on a little ride!!One night we wanted to go jumping, but it was closed so we called this place where Lucie had taken tumbling and we were able to reserve the place for hour and 1/2 for just us...it was a lot of fun!

Another night we had a great time bowling....Jack even had a strike (with the help of the bowling gadget)!

Merry Christmas!

Ok, so I really was going to get around to sending out Christmas cards and then that did not pan out so today I really was going to email our Christmas card to friends and family, but that seemed like a lot of work! Basically I am being L.A.Z.Y!!! So, to all our friends and family who check out our blog we are wishing you a...
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
We are thankful for all of our blessings and all that we have been able to enjoy as a family this year. We have had a lot of fun times! We are thankful for the contact that we have been able to make with so many family and friends this year and hope that we get to see many of you in the coming year! Thanks for checking out our blog...it has been a great way to keep in touch with so many of you.

This is one of my favorite pictures from this year!

Pre-Christmas Eve Dinner!

We had a really nice dinner on Sunday night...prime rib and fresh crab! Our friends from England...Nigel and Julie arrived late Saturday night. With travel delays and different routes it took them about 24 hours to get here. They are celebrating Christmas with our family!!
Nigel and my dad met 40 years ago when Nigel was 16 and my dad was 14. Nigel came to the World Scout Jamboree in Idaho and spent a few days with my grandparents having an American experience! It is remarkable how the friendship has continued through all these years...both of their mom's need to be acknowledged for that as they wrote letters and traveled to see each other. Nigel and Julie travel to Utah more frequently then we travel to England, but we enjoy having them come. 13 years ago we had the opportunity to spend Christmas in England (it does not seem like that long) and it was an awesome experience! We hope that Nigel and Julie enjoy their Christmas in America!!

Taylor Family Christmas Party

We celebrated Christmas with the Taylor family on Saturday night. We had a good time playing dodge ball and family fued and the kids had fun playing in and on the Little Tikes jumper!
We have always gone to my grandma's house on Christmas day and this year will be different. She moved into an assisted living house and her house sold this past year so the family will not get together on Christmas Day. I am sure there were years when we complained about having to go to grandma's house, but now that the tradition has ended it seems like it was such a short period of time. Times change so quickly. We will continue the tradition of getting together with the Taylor's the weekend before Christmas and grandma will come to my mom and dad's house during the day on Christmas.

Book Recommendation

Mr. Finnegan's Giving Chest is a book that we love and wanted to recommend it to anyone who has not seen it and/or read it before. It conveys the message that so many Christmas books do of giving, but the way this story is told is really good. We love the way the little girl in this book discovers the true meaning of giving.
And while talking about books we are so excited because we just finished reading Lucie her first chapter book that she can recall (we read chapter books to her when she was a baby as well). We read SuperFudge and she loved it (we had to omit some items, especially in the chapter about Santa Claus), but other than that she thought the character of Fudge was hilarious! It was so cute to listen to her laugh at the funny parts!

A JuMpInG We Will Go...

Lucie and Jack had a great time jumping, running, and climbing at a local activity center. It is has 2 large areas of trampolines for kids and adults and then blow up toys for the kids. We went with Nick, Noelle, and Brig. Lucie loved jumping with Nick and bouncing off the wall trampolines. She was really adventerous! Jack was the social bug of the day...there were a couple teenage girls that he decided he wanted to follow around. He would not leave them alone and everytime I would try and get him to stay by us he would be searching for them again. He has already started ditching the family for girls...not a good sign considering he is only 2!!

A Little Holiday Party!!!

A little holiday party that we were very excited for!! Lucie could not wait to see Hanna and Kalli...her very favorite friends/cousins!! Jack loves to interact with all of the kids...Izeck, Parker, Macie, Kalli and Hanna. We all met for dinner..enjoyed good food, exchanged gifts and visited. It was nice to see everyone!
At the end of the evening when we were saying good-byes Jack, Macie and Brig were so cute. Jack and Macie were giving each other loves and kisses and then Brig wanted in on the action and went over and put his hands on Macie's shoulders and wanted her to bend down to give him kisses as well!! It was so cute!
Here are some pictures from our fun evening!

Nicki, Jeremy and Grandma Schoonie!

We had Trent's sister and brother (Nicki and Jeremy) over to dinner this week. Lucie and Jack had a great time playing with them. They are good sports to play duck, duck goose, read books, let the kids climb all over them. We enjoy having them down for dinner and are enjoying having them over while they live close. Nicki will graduate from BYU in April and has been accepted to one physical therapy school and is waiting to hear back from other schools for interviews. Nicki and Jeremy are both way smart and have taken more science classes then I even knew existed!

Lucie and Jack each took their turn chatting to Grandma Schoonie on the phone!

Jack is also sporting his underwear in this picture. He started officially wearing underwear this week. He has been ready for a couple of months, but the mom was not quite ready!! So far he is doing awesome!

Christmas Activities

This past week has been filled with fun activities! Last Thursday Lucie finished school for the year and had the chance to sit on Santa's lap. She was so EXCITED! Her teacher was telling me that one of her friends was trying to talk her out of seeing Santa because she was afraid and Lucie said, "I used to be afraid of Santa when I was little, but now I am big and I am not afraid anymore!" Like she is somehow older then her friend?!? I love hearing about 4 year olds conversations or over hearing them talk!

Saturday the "elves and reindeer" surprised us with tickets to a breakfast with Santa at UVSC! Lucie and Jack were way excited when we read the note. Lucie was jumping up and down screaming with excitement that the "elves and reindeer" are so sneaky to find a breakfast and invite us to come! When we arrived at the breakfast there was a girl dressed up as an elf and Lucie was so excited that it might be one of our "elves!"Later Saturday afternoon we had a holiday open house. It was a lot of fun to see and visit with family and friends! It was a very wintry afternoon, snowing about 3-4 inches of snow between 2-6pm. It made the yard look really pretty!

Sunday we had Stake Conference and there are 2 things that I would like to share. Elder Nelson of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles and Elder Osgathorp (probably incorrect spelling, he is an area authority) both shared really great messages. First, Elder Osgathorp when he bore his testimony he spoke it and signed it, as we have a deaf ward in our stake. It was really touching to watch him sign and to watch the deaf ward intently watch him. Elder Nelson gave an excellent message, but the one thing that really stuck out to me is that he said something along the lines that our children will be blessed with peace as we teach them righteous principles. I thought this was an amazing promise and a comforting one as well considering the way our world is and the challenges that our children will face in the coming years.

Last, but not least we decorated a gingerbread house as a family. This was quite the adventure...this is our 4th year of putting together a gingerbread house at Christmas so we thought we were pros and we were going to be so smart and glue the house together so we did not waste frosting (they do not give you much in the kit) on the assembly part. I thought wood glue would work, but of course chemistry was not my strong subject and the gingerbread, wood glue, and plastic base/stand did not bond!! So, Trent thought for sure super glue would work. So we had 2 sides standing, but then the glue bottle leaked and Trent's hands were covered in glue and I had to pry the bottle out of his hand! As he was trying to clean his hands I thought I would try and stick another side in and ended up dropping it on the floor...it shattered to pieces. At this point Trent and I were about out of patience. Lucie pipes up and says, "this is the best Christmas ever and this is going to be best gingerbread house ever and I am sure we can put that piece back together"! I wanted to tell her to be quiet, but bit my tongue...in the moment of frustration I did not think her positive energy was very cute, but when we finally managed to get our gingerbread house together (with frosting) I was very grateful that Lucie had been so positive and kept us enjoying the experience! Our house turned out very cute (in my opinion). Lucie and Jack did the majority of the decorating and it is still standing!

Snow Fun!

We had a lot of fun riding this snowmobile tube behind the 4-wheeler. Nick is so nice to pull all of us...Lucie and Jack both had a lot of fun and were brave to go on their own. I like the picture of Lucie and Brig (top left)...Brig was so serious the whole time we were outside and would not crack a smile. As you can see Lucie enjoyed licking the snow off of her glove. She did not even know we were taking her picture because she was intently watching the 4-wheeler and enjoying her "treat!"

Lucie helped Noelle take Nick for a spin. As you can tell by his facial expression Jack was very excited for his turn. He is getting to be very independent and likes to do things all by himself!

Baby Huey...

Jack loves Lucie's doll cradle. He rocks Lucie's dolls to sleep by singing "I Love to See the Temple" to them and then lays them down in the cradle and covers them up. Now he likes to get in the cradle...Jack you are a funny little boy!!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

On Saturday (December 1st) we woke up to snow! It was so pretty! We had a great time playing in the snow as a family. We made a family of snowmen (miniature size)...we are not very good at the snowman making business. Lucie came home from school yesterday and told Trent not to worry about not being good at building a snowman because her teacher was not good at it either!! Trent was joking around with Lucie that maybe he needs to go take a class on "How to Build a Snowman!"

Jack was very "helpful" at shoveling snow. He was shoveling it onto our porch instead of off the porch. He thought it was hiliarious!

Christmas Traditions!

It is the beginning of the Christmas season and a time to keep with traditions. I love this time of year where the whole month of December seems like it has some ritual of things we like to do in preparation for and enjoyment of the Christmas holiday!! Here a few of the fun things we have already enjoyed doing...

Decorating the Christmas tree!

24 days of socks...my cousin gave me this idea last year and it worked out so good. Everyday we take down a sock that has something in it...sometimes it is a small gift, a service opportunity, an activity to do as a family, a scripture or story to read, etc...The "reindeers or elves" leave something everynight. Lucie and Jack were so excited to put the socks up this year. It is a fun tradition!

And of course putting up Christmas lights...Lucie and Jack were very excited to do this last Friday. Lucie was a great help holding the lights for Trent and Jack was very excited to climb the ladder. Every time we turned around he was at the top again!
