4 things my friend said today...

1.
jack: who is older me or ruby?
mom: is 4 or 10 months bigger.
jack: i'm older than ruby. when i am going to be older?
mom: older than who?
jack: older than lucie.
mom: oh, buddy lucie is always going to be older than you. you might be taller than her one day, but she is always going to be your older sister.
jack: but when am i going to the boss!

2.
jack: do we have to wait in the line today?
{we have to wait in a queue line to pick lucie up from school}
mom: yes
jack: i want to stay at home and babysit myself.
mom:i am sorry you are coming.
jack: how about i stay at noelle's?
mom: maybe you can stay at noelle's sometimes but not all the time.
{this is jack talking to noelle later in the day}
jack: i have planned it out how about i stay at your house sometimes and go with my mom sometimes.
noelle was very nice and let him stay at her house today...thanks!

3.
i was scrubbing the floor and i told jack that i would eat lunch with him when i was done. he was so sweet and asked if he could help. he said..."i have thought about it and if i help you then you will be done faster and we can eat lunch together!"

4.
when we are putting jack to bed tonight he says, "my tummy says it's not time for bed!"

bAck to SChooL

Lucie starts 1st grade tomorrow and Jack starts 4 year old preschool next week. Both are excited to be back in school. It is bittersweet for me. I am excited that they are so excited, but I am going to miss them both. I feel like my time with them is so precious. I want to enjoy and savor every minute that I get to play with them, read to them, listen to them to tell stories...I love them both and I know that they will do awesome at school this year!

The idea for these pictures came from here.

what could be better than...

a camp out in the family room with cousins, watching a movie, and eating popcorn!
thanks girls for coming and hanging out with us! we had a great time:)

Congrats to Harm and Noelle!

Harm, my cousin and Noelle ran the Provo River 1/2 marathon last Saturday! It was Noelle's first 1/2 marathon and she did awesome. Finishing just under two and half hours. She is now preparing for another race this Fall! It is fun to be at the finish line supporting them in their accomplishments!
Noelle and Harm both waving to their paparazzi!

Our little friends were so excited to make the sign for Noelle and Harm but it did not hold up too well. Next time we will use poster board girls!

Learning to Ride a Bike

Trent has been working off and on with Lucie since last summer to learn to ride a bike. She did pretty good last summer. She just couldn't quite get the hang of turning and she was going so fast she did not have very good control. It was a little challenging because her bike was slightly big for her last year.
This summer we have been more consistent with giving her time to practice and she fits her bike a lot better. Just last week she got the hang of turning and was going a good speed and she received her first skinned knee from falling off, but she hopped right back on and tried again!

Jack has been determined all summer to learn to ride his bike without training wheels. He asked for them to be taken off at the first of the summer, but then did not have patience with learning. Then a couple of weeks ago we went on a walk where Lucie and Jack rode their bikes. Jack was cruising so fast to beat Lucie that his training wheels were not even touching the ground. The next day he asked for them to be taken off. Trent told him that if he took them off he was not going to put them back on again. Jack agreed and we went out to practice. He immediately kept telling me to let go of him that he was fine. I was concerned that he was not quite there with his balance, but after he insisted a dozen times I finally let go and off he went. He was completely fine! He has such determination that when he puts his mind to something he can do it no problem! He is hilarious to watch stop because he hits his brakes and jumps off all in one motion! Then he says, "I'm ok!"
Nice accomplishment Luc and Jack!!

Jackers Crackers

is our funny, unique, kind, loving little guy who is growing up way too fast.
He is also down to only 15 days until his birthday!! He is a planner and has been planning his birthday for this year since August 31st,2008! Every day he comes up with a different activity to do, a different place to eat, a new list of people of people to invite. Now we get to really start planning and hopefully he will be able to decide:)

A few weeks ago Jack went with Grandma Schoonie and Lucie to a play. Afterwards Lucie made a wish on a star and then told me about it when she got home. About 10 minutes after Lucie shared this with me Jack asked me when his stuff would be coming.
mom - what stuff??
jack - my stuff from the store.
mom - we haven't been to the store.
jack - the stuff i wished for on the star. i can't wait for it to come from the store.
mom - oh, (i finally get it) what did you wish for?
jack - a motorcycle, a book, and a movie!
Needless to say we are still waiting for those things to show up! I wish it was that easy!

Last Sunday the primary reminded the children of activity on Tuesday and to remember to invite and bring their friends. Jack ran down from primary and gave Brig and my mom both flyers to come to the activity. He was so excited to invite his friends! He told my mom - "you are my friend." It was so sweet. On Tuesday he even remembered that he needed to remind Brig and Grandma about the activity. He was a little bummed that neither of the came, but he still had a great time with Lucie.

Jack you are my little buddy and I love you so much. You keep me busy and on my toes! I will miss our morning chats when you start school. Your attention to details is amazing and you never forget to include anyone. You are such a good example of kindness and always watching out for others and making sure that others are taken care of.

9 months and 10 months

Last month I missed doing a post on Ruby turning 9 months and now she is 10 months old! She is losing her serious side and is full of smiles. She LOVES to wave her whole arm "hi" and "good-bye." She is fully mobile now and can pretty much get wherever she wants. She loves paper, cords and bathroom garbage cans. We are quickly learning to keep things picked up. She is like a little vacuum that is willing to try anything. Last week she found dead fly and had that in her mouth...I know disgusting but luckily I was able to retrieve it fairly quickly from her mouth.
Some other milestones from this past month -

  • she started crawling right about 9 months
  • she cut 2 teeth
  • she says mama and other babblings as well-she can be quite loud if she wants to be heard
  • she pulls door stops out of the wall
  • she can pull herself to low tables, stools, anything that the kids are playing with (we are reaching the stage of she is touching my stuff)!
  • she is starting to to be interested in food. she especially gets excited when she sees the Cheerios box or a Popsicle.

Ruby @ 9 months and I will add a 10 month photo.

Grandpa hangin out with the girls. Sophia has about 3 inches and 2lbs on Ruby. Ruby gets so excited now when she sees Sophia. She starts bouncing in our arms and babbling to Sophia. They have their own little language going on:)

We have been seeing Grandma Schoonie so frequently that Ruby recognizes her. When she walked in our door this past month Ruby immediately waved/reached out to her.
