Learning to Ride a Bike

Trent has been working off and on with Lucie since last summer to learn to ride a bike. She did pretty good last summer. She just couldn't quite get the hang of turning and she was going so fast she did not have very good control. It was a little challenging because her bike was slightly big for her last year.
This summer we have been more consistent with giving her time to practice and she fits her bike a lot better. Just last week she got the hang of turning and was going a good speed and she received her first skinned knee from falling off, but she hopped right back on and tried again!

Jack has been determined all summer to learn to ride his bike without training wheels. He asked for them to be taken off at the first of the summer, but then did not have patience with learning. Then a couple of weeks ago we went on a walk where Lucie and Jack rode their bikes. Jack was cruising so fast to beat Lucie that his training wheels were not even touching the ground. The next day he asked for them to be taken off. Trent told him that if he took them off he was not going to put them back on again. Jack agreed and we went out to practice. He immediately kept telling me to let go of him that he was fine. I was concerned that he was not quite there with his balance, but after he insisted a dozen times I finally let go and off he went. He was completely fine! He has such determination that when he puts his mind to something he can do it no problem! He is hilarious to watch stop because he hits his brakes and jumps off all in one motion! Then he says, "I'm ok!"
Nice accomplishment Luc and Jack!!

I am not sure who is getting more exercise the kids or Trent! Great job Lucie and Jack - isn't bike riding just the best! Such freedom!
Love you -
